Their love is profound, their connection powerful, but just when she thinks that she's finally gotten beneath his guarded exterior, more questions arise, leading Ava to believe that Jesse Ward may not be the man she thinks he is. He knows too well how to take her to a place beyond ecstasy . . . but will he also drive her to the brink of despair? It's time for this man to confess.Book This Man Confessed Review :
This series was frustrating to read and I had to take breaks from it from time to time. I've read and enjoyed some "crazy love" stories and I wanted to like this one, but Jesse and Ava are the two most annoying and unlikeable main characters that I have ever read about. At first their dysfunction was entertaining in the same manner that an episode of the Jerry Springer show is, but after a while, it's gets old and stupid and annoying and you realize that you have better things to do with your time. That is exactly what happened to me with this series. I am not on "Central Jesse Cloud Nine" because he was crazy and imo, his background was not tortured or tragic enough to justify that level of crazy. Ava was worse. She was extremely dimwitted and was a complete selfish bitch for three novels and I can't for the life of me understand what any of those men ever saw in her. She just was not a nice person and quite frankly, neither were her circle of friends. (The underlying homophobia and racism that some of the characters displayed didn't go unnoticed, btw.) Jesse and Ava get a HEA to their story but neither of them deserve one, imo. Neither redeem themselves or learn from the error of their follies. Love, good sex, marriage and babies alone cannot cure alcoholism (which the books glossed over) and the obsessive co-dependency that these two displayed for three entire novels. I don't care how nice and bright the epilogue wants to paint their future. That type of HEA between these two would not be attainable without the help of a team of mental health professionals and medication. I feel like there was really no character growth for either Ava or Jesse. They literally carried on in exact the same way all the way from book 1, neither one having learned anything in the process other than the fact that Jesse’s obsession with Ava is definitely psychotic. There is so much going on, we do not catch a break at all. We don’t have time to recover from one drama before something else comes at us. And Jesse seriously lies up until the 90% of the story just about. There’s always the same excuse, “I didn’t want you to get upset and leave me.” There is a very cute epilogue, I’ll give it that. It is from Jesse’s POV, as opposed to the entire book being from Ava’s, and it is cute and a little funny. However, overall for the series, I am flabbergasted that I spent so much money for what the story actually is. I definitely feel ripped off.
