I actually read this book for the first time a couple of years ago but for some reason never got around to reviewing it. It's definitely one that I've re-read multiple times and it's just as good now as it was in the beginning.I really love the characters of Shane and Dimitri. Dimitri, at first, comes off as a bit arrogant and homophobic, but given the upbringing from their home pack, it's actually understandable. Shane is unbelievably patient with his clueless mate - taking in stride ever f-up that Dimitri does, and there are a lot. I love that Shane holds his own against Dimitri and isn't willing to back down or change who he is. Dimitri does a whole lot of soul searching and groveling but in the end, the two mates come out stronger. The interwoven murder investigation is extremely well written and interesting - with enough twists and turns to keep you on your toes until the final reveal. Kalel is probably one of my favorite side characters and I just want to give him a hug and steal him away. Peter, Dimitri's brother, and his best friend, Ben, are welcome additions to the newly formed pack - as is Sin, the BDSM Dom, that forms a partnership with Ben. He will also play heavily in the next book.I absolutely love every book by Lisa Oliver and this is one of my favorite series ever. Shifters and fated mates, with a bit of paranormal detective work, and characters that will leap off the pages! 100% recommend! Shane is a detective in the Stockton police department and also a lone wolf shifter having left his pack years ago because he wouldn't be accepted as a gay. Suddenly a transfer into his department, Dmitry,. is introduced and not only is he the bully from his old pack that made his life miserable, he is also Shane's fated mate. Their professional and mates partnership really gets off to a rocky start and continues as they work on the case of someone killing young gay men. This is a great book but the reader knows who the killer is long before detectives do. It is still a good beginning to a new series and you will want to continue it as much as I do.
