HOLY WOW!This book was absolutely fantastic! I loved the first book The Pawn but Skye Warren out did herself with this one! The Knight has a lot of suspense, twists and turns and the reader is left on the edge of their seat waiting and wanting to know what happens next. This book had so much depth and a well-developed plot. The characters were so dynamic I feel like I got to know so much more about them in this second installment. I stayed up all night to read this book and by the time I was done I could not even sleep because this story was so stuck in my mind. I spent hours trying to process all my emotions and my feelings for everything that occurred in this book.The book picks up where The Pawn ended and we get to see so many new things with Avery and Gabriel. Avery is forced to grow up and has to learn to live on her own and to take her life into her own hands. She is given so many hard decisions to make and is abandoned by most of the people she has ever loved. We see her emotions and struggles in this book. We get to go deep into her soul about her life when she was a child and how she feels and reacts to her past in the present. I loved her character in this book! She was so strong willed and would never give up no matter how bad her life got, she would get back up and fight for whatever little dignity she had left.Gabriel: "God, you really did forget. You thought I was your knight in **** armor, riding in to defend your castle."Avery: "No," I whisper but I'm terrified he's right. His filthy mouth and the way he revealed all his dynamic parts in this book set me on fire! She had lost all the family money due to her father stealing from some very wealthy and powerful men. She sells her virginity to Gabriel to pay for her fathers medical care when he is badly beaten and left almost dead. In the Knight we are led through a maze of mystery, half truths and lots of deceit. Everyone is playing games with her, Gabriel, her father, people she thought was her mothers friends. Every time she thinks she's closer to the truth she's only left with more questions.This book is strife with tension. There's lots of anger but it's clouded in vague innuendo. Even the sex is clouded in a game that Avery doesn't fully understand. Seeing as she sold her virginity to Gabriel and he is the only man she has ever been with. The End game series is very intriguing and I look forward to the installment.
